Description
‘Romantic Roses’ is a mixed media painting on canvas. The format is classified as small: 25 x 25 cm.
This still life has a romantic, very shabby chic feel, with warm tones of delicate pinks and greys, subtle khaki shades, and gold and silver felt-tip pen drawings. These fine lines enliven the surface, delicately emphasising the shapes of the plants.
This floral painting was created using a mixed water-based technique: watercolour, watercolour pencils, inks, acrylic and coloured pencils, embellished with acrylic and silver and gold felt-tip pens.
Roses are known as the queens of flowers. I never tire of the beauty of their foliage, their shapes sometimes gathered into adorable balls, sometimes dishevelled with large fragrant petals. Painting roses and capturing their swirling appearance is a challenge for every painter. These flowers are complex but also lend themselves very well to interpretation, to the energy of the stroke, of the pictorial touch.
I like to imagine flowers, foliage, nature. I am inspired by the plants in my garden. I always keep in mind the beauty and pleasant vision of a decorative and figurative work of art. In France, we have inherited the tradition (now assimilated into a ‘classical’ school of painting because of its historical reputation) of Impressionist painting. Exploring colours and shapes to evoke nature, what we see. Art is an interpretation of the world we live in.
